Kinematic and Dynamic Analysis

DYMES

Engineering Mechanics Research Corporation

DYMES is a state-of-the-art general purpose program for kinematic dynamicanalysis of constrained multi-body mechanical systems that undergo largenon-linear three-dimensional motion. A library of mechanical joints suchas spherical, revolute, and translational joints and force elements suchas non-linear springs, dampers, and actuators permits convenient modelingof various mechanical systems. Machine mechanisms, robotics, groundvehicles, spacecrafts, and controlled systems can be analyzed andsimulated for time histories of their motion and joint reaction forces.A state-of-the-art tire module along with environment modules makesautomobile ride and handling simulations reliable and realistic.Calculation of static design factors for vehicle suspension systemsserves as an indispensable tool for suspension design. In addition to kinematic and dynamic analysis, other analysiscapabilities of DYMES include: initial assembly within a given assemblytolerance; redundancy analysis to identify and eliminate redundantconstraints; static equilibrium analysis under a given loading condition;quasi-static analysis for a sequence of different loading conditions; andinverse dynamic analysis to determine necessary forces to produce a givenmotion.A mouse-driven graphic pre-processor permits easy creation of DYMESmodels in both menu and command modes. A comprehensive post-processorhelps easy interpretation of the results through plots and animations.Future extension of the code includes: control system modelingcapability; flexible body modeling capability.
